Muncie's downtown needs something that will draw people back to the downtown and provide a plan for future development through existing parking lots. Through research, urban parks were found to help revitalize businesses. This became the design philosophy for the project. The idea behind this philosophy is that the park, people, and businesses are all connected in a cycle where they all benefit from the each other and, if one is removed, it breaks the cycle. The cycle starts with the park providing activities and attractions for people. This will bring more people downtown to live and play. With more people living and visiting near the park, there will be a higher demand for goods and services to accommodate the increase of people. The businesses will realize the potential demand and move their retail near the park. The businesses, located next to the park, will help maintain it to keep people visiting it.

This project required a cistern and rain garden design to handle storm water from the Muncie City Hall Building. In teams of two, we designed a series of columns that would hold rainwater. A rill would catch the rainwater from the building and direct it to the columns. The columns and rills would reflect the architecture and colors of the city hall building in order to blend in seamlessly. Rainwater from the roof enters the rill next to the building and most of it is captured and stored in the columns. The rest of the rain water falls from the rill into multiple rain gardens that percolate the rainwater.
